This is a great value Burgundian Pinot Noir, made from a blend of grapes from two areas – one above Saint-Aubin, and another near a little-known First Growth called Maranges, to the south of Santenay. But why is it so good? The answer lies with the vines themselves. They are really fine Pinots, producing small berries with thick skins – and half the plantings are old vines. The colour of this 2014 is purple-ruby of medium depth, aromas being very fine and perfumed. The palate is immensely attractive, finely balancing intense fruitiness with refreshingly soft aftertaste (for drinking 2017-2019).
