Description
Les Royes is a steeply sloping, 6-hectare, south-facing amphitheatre of vines, where Courbis cultivates parcels of Syrah (5 hectares) and Marsanne (1 hectare) for their red and white cuvées of this wine. This white Saint-Joseph Blanc is a triumph in 2020, its medium body, lively lemon-peach aromatics and intense freshness being beautifully in balance. It fermented and aged in 30% new French oak barrels, which has brought complexity and attractive spice to the flavour profile as well as a supple texture. We recommend drinking this as soon as it is shipped, as one might a youthful Pouilly-Fuissé (for drinking 2022-2024).

Domaine Courbis
Located in the commune of Châteaubourg, where the rivers Rhône and Isère meet, this Domaine has been in the family since the 16th century, with Courbis brothers Dominique (in the vines) and Laurent (in the winery) at the helm. Their Cornas wines opened our eyes to the beauty of the appellation several years ago, as we enjoyed older bottles in restaurants when travelling in the area. We were fortunate to start shipping directly from the Domaine with the 2016 vintage.
With a twinkle in his eye and a range of wines that consistently impresses us, our tastings with Laurent are one of the highlights of our travels.
