Description

The soils where these vines grow are rich in limestone, giving intense fruit and liveliness. Three quarters of the cuve´e normally comes from the 90-year-old vines which Agne`s inherited from her grand-parents. The balance is from a young plantation, which recently came into production. This year, however, the proportion from old vines is much higher, as the younger plantation was severely frost-damaged. The wine has aged in not-new barrels for 12+ months. Lemon-golden, it has fresh, ripe aromas and is a splendid mouthful. Fruit is intense, acidity present in perfect balance, finish is creamy and long (for drinking 2023-2027+).

Driving into the perched hillside village of Meloisey in the Hautes Côtes behind Pommard, you can immediately understand why this beautiful, elevated spot can give wines that have such clarity and freshness. It is here that Agnès Paquet, a young proprietor and winemaker, created her Domaine in 2000. She started with a vineyard in Auxey-Duresses inherited from her grandparents, where both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are planted. In addition, she makes some delicious, great-value regional wines, and excellent examples from Saint-Aubin, Santenay and Pommard..
