Description

The Cady family owns 2.5 hectares in the Varennes vineyard, which lies on the hillside opposite the domaine, just above the River Layon. Soils combine schist and quartz, the Chenin Blanc vines having been planted in 1976. Bright lemon-gold, aromas are taut and lemony, with notes of ripe mango. Palate is full bodied, having remarkable raciness which lifts natural sweetness and deep concentration. This is a very fresh style, having classic Coteaux du Layon lilt and drive to finish.

Domaine Cady

Alexandre Cady is the 4th generation to run this family estate. The Domaine’s 26 hectares include 15 of Chenin Blanc vines planted on some of the finest schist, quartz and carboniferous slopes of St Aubin and Chaume.

The estate is certified organic, with maximum concentration ensured by holding yields to between 20 and 35 hectolitres per hectare through a combination of short pruning and spring de-budding. Alex picks the Chenins by hand in successive tris, bringing in grapes at optimum concentration and ripeness. This policy is rewarded with a quality exemplified by both dry and sweet that boast a beautiful balance of delicacy, freshness and richness.
