The Maté`s vineyard is the most powerful and splendid of all the Kumeu River bottles. It is planted with the Mendoza Chardonnay clone, which naturally gives wines that are generous in both body and flavour. 2023 marks the 40th vintage of this wine, where grapes were first harvested in 1993. Pale lemon-gold colour, aromas are brightly scented, having notes of flint, spiced lemon and white peach. Palate is full bodied and tightly coiled, having beautiful underlying power which needs time to emerge. At the same time, this has salinity and drive, texture being creamy, the finish being long and crisp (for drinking 2025-2033+).
