This 2013 is a traditional house blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay from 20 Grands and Premiers Crus vineyards. It aged for 7 years in Pol Roger’s Epernay cellars before being disgorged earlier this year.
Very pale lemon-green with tiny, vivacious bubbles, aromas are enormously attractive, rich and bright: lemons, green apples, red berries and shortbread. Palate is vivid, taut and energetic, with full body, very silky mouthfeel, precise, pure flavours and a brisk, elegant, long-lingering finish. Here is a champagne with great lift and vibrancy, for drinking 2020-2025+, or 2020-2030 in magnums.
