2020 Cornas Champelrose, Domaine Courbis

From 3 hectares of Syrah vines located in the foothills that lead up to La Sabarotte, this is the most approachable and open of the family’s three Cornas cuvées. Just 3% new oak was used for maturation here, the aim being to keep the wine focussed on its intense, natural fruitiness. Very deep ruby-purple colour, aromas are taut and fragrant: bramble fruit, black olive, cassis. The palate is full and tightly concentrated, having focus, purity and lift. Tannins are fresh and in perfect harmony (for drinking 2022-2028+).
