2020 Côte-Rôtie Rose Pourpre, Pierre Gaillard

Rose Pourpre is from vines on the vertiginous, south-facing, iron-rich, schist slopes of the Côte Rozier lieu-dit. This is prime terroir for Syrah, giving bold, substantially proportioned wines. In 2020, colour is opaque purple, aromas being deep, dark and richly layered. On the palate, power meets with elegance, this having incredibly generous body, and tightly coiled, ripe fruit flavours underpinned by intricate structure and mineral freshness. The finish is superb, finely tannic and long-lasting (for drinking 2025-2040+).
