The Bourgueil vineyards run along a limestone escarpment on the north bank of the Loire. This ‘Prestige’ cuvée comes from vines planted mid-slope, where deep clay combines with limestone, accounting for the power and depth we regularly see in this wine. Deep ruby-purple, aromas are intense: floral blackcurrants and spice. On the palate, this is full and densely packed, with the intricate structure one expects from top quality Cabernet Franc. This is still in its youth (we recommend decanting it), and will gain further savoury complexity over another 10 years – the 1989 vintage is still drinking beautifully.
