Ségur de Cabanac is a property we consistently love for its powerful, precise wines. Its small, 7-hectare vineyard consists of 12 plots, located on prime gravel hillsides facing the Gironde, adjoining sites belonging to some of the commune’s greatest names: Calon-Ségur, Phélan-Ségur, Meyney. Tasting this alongside the excellent but still young 2015 and 2016, this 2014 seduced us with its supple charm and complex maturity. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, aged for 20 months in French barriques (30% new), colour is bright ruby, aromas being delicately perfumed and attractive: red cherry, cassis, warm spices. Palate is full and freshly structured, having excellent concentration. The finish is freshly tannic, poised and long (for drinking 2022-2026+) – 13.5%.
