Since its establishment in 1988, Jacky Blot’s domaine has raised the bar in Montlouis, producing wines that are among the most individual, scintillating examples of Loire Chenin Blanc. With his son Jean-Philippe, their guiding principles of organic viticulture and small yields from a massal selection of old vines have helped to bring the wines to the attention of those with their ears to the ground. 100% Chenin Blanc, “Rémus” is the result of a second harvesting sweep of their 12-hectare Clos du Mosny vineyard, where vines average 50-80 years in age. Slow fermentation in oak was followed by 12 months élevage in a quarter each of new, 1, 2 and 3-year old barrels.
The colour of this 2018 is a brilliant lemon-green, with pure apple aromas, and gentle hints of fresh hazelnuts bringing complexity. Intensely flavoured and linear on the palate, the texture is satiny, with breath-taking freshness to finish. A fabulous wine, to treat as one would a fine white burgundy.
