The Scorpo Family Vineyard is located in Merricks North, in the heart of Australia’s Mornington Peninsula. Vines were first planted here in 1997, with Paul and Caroline Scorpo having chosen this location for its unique, maritime climate, which is ideal for growing high quality cool climate varietals, especially Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The estate now comprises 7 hectares and works under the principle that quality wines are made from sustainably farmed, low-yielding, hand-picked vines – the vineyard determines the ultimate quality of the wine. Here, old world practices combine with new world flavours to give captivatingly delicious wines, which we are thrilled to introduce to the UK.
This 2018 Aubaine Chardonnay was fermented and then aged, for 12 months, in old (4 years and older) French barriques. It has a bright, pale lemon colour, aromas being flinty and lemony – very pure and expressive. Palate is full bodied and focused, with attractive, intense, spicy citrus character. This is a long flavoured, harmonious wine, with tension, precision and freshness.
