This famous property has been in the same family since 1826, when Hugh Barton purchased a quarter of the big Léoville estate, his part then becoming known as Léoville-Barton. As at Château Langoa-Barton, the current proprietors are Anthony Barton’s daughter Lilian Barton-Sartorius and her two children Mélanie, an oenologist, and Damien (representing the 8th Barton generation). The Bartons are one of only two families (the others being the Rothschilds) to have retained ownership of their properties, since the 1855 Classification.
Cabernet Sauvignon constitutes 85.5% of the 2020 blend, with Merlots the balance. Average age of the vines is 38 years, which with the wine now ageing in 60% new barrels. Colour is solid, deep purple, with richly open, complex aromas, very fresh. Palate is broadly structured, with concentrated, rich middle, fine tannins, and refreshing, long lasting aftertaste. This is a classic Léoville-Barton of real beauty and great potential (for drinking 2028-2045+).
