From 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot, 2020 has produced a densely concentrated Poyferré. Colour is inky purple, the aromas being rich and sweet, with dark berry fruits and cedar wood spice. This is an impressive mouthful of compact fruit, with super depth and intensity. There is a strong tannic frame and a finish that builds with great power. Not a silky style of Saint-Julien, but a firm wine that requires bottle-age (for drinking 2026 – 2045+).
2020 bookmarks the centennial of the Cuvelier Family’s ownership of this property. A special bottle / label will be unveiled for this historic vintage.
