This is Charles Magnien’s third vintage of making a Corton Grand Cru, and the result is again magnificent. The vineyard is in the commune of Ladoix-Serrigny, facing due east, downhill from Corton Le Rognet. It has been ageing in 75% new barrels – “Corton needs new wood,” Charles tells us. Colour is deep purple, aromas are rich, with black fruits dominating. Palate is solidly built, with well-rounded tannins, and sustained, densely textured, abundant ripe fruitiness. Superb potential (for drinking 2025-2035+).
