This is Charles Magnien’s largest Premier Cru holding, and the wine with which he most closely identifies – his parents’ home is exactly at the foot of these vines. It is the most northerly of the three Côte Saint Jacques vineyards owned by the Domaine. Les Cazetiers is certainly one of the most fascinating First Growths of the Côte de Nuits, and the Magnien family is understandably proud of their substantial 1.47 hectare holding. They own plots on all four of the different soil types which are to be found here, from bottom to top, where the trees begin. Rich purple of medium depth, this shows abundant, open fruitiness on the nose, replicated on the palate, with its broad structure, and exuberant personality. Generous in youth, with fully ripened tannins, this will age superbly (for drinking 2025-2038+).
