2015 was a wonderful year in Montalcino, where a smooth growing season and beautiful summer weather gave a plentiful crop of healthy Sangiovese grapes. This is a powerful, structured, rich vintage for Brunello which will need time to show its paces; but with Caterina Carli`s Rosso di Montalcino, the result is an alluringly ripe, silkily textured, more approachable wine. Aged for 18 months in large, old, Slavonian oak botti, colour is bight, mid ruby, aromas being attractive and perfumed, recalling red fruits, plums and floral, sweet spice. Medium bodied on the palate, it has superb fruit clarity, with intense flavours of red cherry and sweet raspberry. This is a bright, refreshing wine with a fine grip of tannins to finish. Still incredibly youthful, we recommend decanting this for immediate drinking, or drinking from 2018-2020.
