Given the consistent high quality of his crop in 2016, Laurent has made just one Crozes-Hermitage cuvée, rather than two separate barrel selections (it was his “Cuvée Marcel” we listed with the 2015 vintage). 100% destemmed, with 80% of the blend having aged in small, old oak barrels, 20% in concrete tank, colour is deep ruby purple, aromas being taut and pure: black cherry and violets, with a hint of black pepper. Palate is medium bodied, linear and refreshing. Fruit is ripe yet not jammy, singing to a background of smoke and spice, the finish being long and well-balanced (for drinking 2018-2022+).
