Domaine de l’Eglise, as the name indicates, lies next to Pomerol’s church, its vines bordering famous names towards the north of Pomerol’s central plateau, including Pétrus. It was acquired by the Castéja family of Château Batailley in 1973, who has taken great strides in realising its potential. This superb 2016 brings together classic Pomerol power with freshness and elegance. The blend consists of 95% Merlot, with 5% Cabernet Franc, colour being glinting ruby, with buoyant aromas of spiced plums, rich red fruits, and tobacco. Palate shows bright fruit, with muscular, harmonious structure, well-sustained flavours, rich, well-rounded tannins and splendid length (for drinking 2022-2030+) – 13.5%.
