Perched on the limestone heights of Saint-Emilion, within 200 metres of the town’s moat and ancient walls, this little-known jewel of a property produces a wine which defines Saint-Emilion at its best. There are less than 16 acres in production, the vines averaging about 35 years of age. In 2015 the blend again reflects how the vineyard is planted. 80% Merlot with 20% Cabernet Franc and the wine is now ageing in 40% new oak barrels. This 2015 La Serre is rich, brilliant purple in colour, with pure, fine fruitiness on the nose. Palate is broadly structured, with abundant, dense fruitiness, fine harmony, creamy texture, fresh, gentle tannins, and impressive, complex length (for drinking 2020-2032+).
