This is the sixth vintage made by new owners, Lilian and Michel Barton Sartorius, who acquired the property in August 2011. They bring the same expertise and experience to bear here as at their Saint-Julien châteaux Langoa- and Léoville-Barton, which have been in the Barton family for eight generations. A variety of soils allow the four great vine varieties to be planted, with, in 2016, Merlot making up 47% of the blend, Cabernet Sauvignon 28%, Cabernet Franc 18% and Petit Verdot 7%. Wine-making has been modernised and the oak barrel cellarage up-graded, with one third of barrels being new, and one third being passed on from Léoville each year. Colour is medium garnet-ruby, the nose being fragrant, open and ripe. Palate is full, with beautiful fruitiness, acidity and tannins in fine balance, and lovely length (for drinking 2019-2025+).
