Ch. Cos d’Estournel has changed hands twice since 1998. New management has steered the wine back to its former, thrilling classicism. We are delighted once again to be celebrating this château’s wine. It is one of the greatest of the vintage, and 2016 is a very great year for its district, the northern Médoc.
This is an assemblage of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon with 25% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc. It represents about 45% of the production of the estate, and is currently ageing in 60% new barrels (vs 80% historically). Alcohol remains modest at 13.1°. In colour it has a deep rich ruby-purple hue. Cassis aromas leap from the glass, open and very fragrant. The palate is amply structured, with lively body, dense fruitiness, rich, fully-ripened tannins and outstanding length. A very great wine (for drinking 2022-2050+).
