This comes from a low-yielding, stony hillside plot, situated above Beaune Clos des Mouches. The Domaine is at the forefront of those demonstrating how to make Pommards of charm and softness. Global warming is certainly helping to bring better ripeness, but so is the input of the grower. “There’s a complexity here which resembles the 2016s, with the fruitiness of 2017s,” says Joannès Violot-Guillemard. Colour is purple-ruby of medium depth, moving to amber at the rim. Aromas are rich and meaty, palate shows excellent fruit, with gentle tannins and crispness on the finish (for drinking 2021-2026+).
