These Pinots were planted in 1969, in shallow, red soils which are rich in clay and iron-oxides. The vines lie on a mini-plateau, just downhill from First Growth Clos des Montaigus. They are now being pruned to restrict their yields, so production has dropped. It was a mere 2 barrels in 2020 – one of which was new, and oakiness has been well integrated. Rich, purple-ruby in colour, this has intense, fully ripened aromas, with good structure and dense fruitiness (for drinking 2023-2027+). Do look at the price of this – vintages of this wine get snapped up early for their value and deliciousness.
