This First Growth vineyard lies in a protected, sweet spot, growing on red soil below Les Rugiens Bas. The vines are 40 years-old, and their yield has naturally diminished with the years – a factor that was exacerbated by the frost in 2016, where production was just 9 hectolitres per hectare (the law would allow four times this). What a wine this is! Colour is mid ruby, aromas being outstandingly focussed, showing fresh raspberry, violet, sweet Christmas spice. This is sumptuous, complex, with powerful fruit, rich texture, ripe tannins and caressing, superbly long aftertaste (for drinking 2022-2036+).
