This comes entirely from a vineyard which is more than 50 years old, situated in Les Rugiens Bas, which is widely acknowledged to be the best section. 30% of whole bunches were carefully selected on the sorting table, to form part of the fermenting vat, and the wine has been aging in 1/3 new barrels. It has beautiful purple, medium-deep colour. Nose is complex and meaty, with a touch of wood-smoke. Palate has solid, broad structure and dense fruitiness, with great concentration. Tannins are present, without bitterness, with freshness and finesse combining at the finish. “My object is to make a Rugiens which is not hard” said Thibaud, and he has certainly succeeded here. This is clearly one of the greatest wines in the cellar (for drinking 2020-2040+).
