Castello Fonterutoli`s Gran Selezione was a forerunner, in 1995, of the Gran Selezione category. It is a Cru of Sangiovese coming from 11 estate-owned parcels surrounding the Fonterutoli hamlet, within the commune of Castellina in Chianti. It aged for 18 months in small French oak barrels (50% new), which has given this wine admirable complexity of aroma and richness of texture. Bright, mid ruby-garnet in the glass, this is a rich, elegant red wine, with lifted aromas of red cherries, licorice and sweet spice, with an attractive savoury undertone. It has precise structure, generous middle and a persistent, freshly tannic length (for drinking now – 2030+).
