The Cady family owns 2.5 hectares in the Varennes vineyard, where the vines were planted in 1976. Here, a high proportion of Chenin grapes (90%) were affected by the desirable Noble Rot, giving a wine that is fuller and more creamily-textured, and indeed sweeter in style. Pale gold colour, aromas are gorgeously perfumed and enticing, recalling confit apricots, peach tart and honeyed citrus peel. Palate is full, deeply concentrated and beautifully mouth-coating, lifted by classic, Coteaux du Layon freshness of acidity. This is a lively, satisfying wine that will be particularly stunning with British strawberries this summer.
