A blend of 80% Sauvignon blanc, with 20% Semillon, this 2015 Picque Caillou blanc was aged for 7 months in oak barrels which were 30% new, with 40% having contained a wine for one year, and 30% having held two harvests. This precise barrel-ageing policy allowed for the beneficial effects of oak ageing, without risking the wine’s piercingly fresh fruitiness being muted by the casks. The wine is pale, green-gold, with very clean, Sauvignon aromas of great purity. The palate shows explosive fruit from the start, the middle being rich without heaviness, the finish balanced, crisp and lively (for drinking 2017-2021+).
