The Chatenières vineyard lies next to En Remilly, on a continuation of the clay-limestone hillside that sweeps west from Puligny. Sadly this was a site that was dramatically impacted by the spring frost, giving yields that were down by 75% in 2016 – so just 3.5 barrels in all. This 2016 is classic, text-book, First Growth Saint-Aubin, and a wine of perfect pitch and clarity. Aromas are vibrant, flinty and lemony, palate being full, fleshy and tightly woven, with layers of fruit flavours. This is a taut, racy wine that has excellent length and poise (for drinking 2019–2023+).
