This comes entirely from the Chassagne-Montrachet sector of Bâtard-Montrachet, from magnificently-situated vines which lie just across the road from Le Montrachet itself. It is one of the choicest spots for Bâtard-Montrachet, and Marc-Antonin’s rows are very close to those of the Hospices de Beaune (where the wine has regularly sold for over £200 per bottle, in recent auctions). Planted in 1983 by his late grandfather, these vines have now reached full maturity – sadly, they have given just one barrel of wine with this 2016 vintage (less than half of a regular harvest). In colour, this is green-golden, with very beautiful aromas. Palate shows superb richness, great harmony, astounding length. This is a great bottle (for drinking 2019-2028+).
