Sauzet’s vines are located on the Puligny-Montrachet side of this Grand Cru, which straddles both Puligny and Chassagne. They lie within the Bâtard “shoulder” – the section of the vineyard between Bienvenues and Le Montrachet, where red marls in the soil contribute intense richness and luscious texture, which few other Bâtards can boast. This 2016 has serious “wow” factor. Brilliant pale lemon in colour, it has a nose which is spectacularly fragrant and fresh. Palate is explosive, with wonderful, tightly-packed fruit, followed by ravishing freshness and great length. This is a very stylish, detailed wine with a brilliant future. It will not fail to thrill (for drinking 2020-2030+).
