As with the two following wines, this vineyard (which overlooks Pommard and Meursault) was badly affected by the April frost, so yields were tiny, with just 5 barrels of this wine existing in 2016. What a shame, as this is a wonderful, expressive Clos des Monsnières. Pale lemon colour, aromas are open and intense, with vivid, spicy-citrus freshness. Palate is full, complex, tense and well-built, the finish being clean and elegant. “This is a wine that has a lot say – it is one of my favourites this year,” says winemaker Franck Grux. We couldn’t agree more (for drinking 2018-2022+).
