Château Brane-Cantenac is rightly seen as one of the pinnacles of Margaux. Baron is the property’s Second wine, made with the same strict attention as its sibling, but given a shorter, 12-month barrel ageing to achieve an aromatic, densely flavoured style, with elegant tannins. This 2014 has a bright, ruby colour, aromas being beautifully perfumed, with notes of cassis and pencil lead. Palate is medium bodied, precisely structured and has lovely vitality and freshness. There is excellent mid-palate power and concentration, with savoury spiciness interweaving with primary, floral, black berry fruitiness. The finish is harmonious and fine (for drinking 2023-2025+).
