Les Griffons is one of the Second Wines of Château Pichon Baron, and was first created with the 2012 vintage. Whereas the property`s other Second Wine, Tourelles de Longueville, is built on Merlot, the grapes for Griffons come primarily from gravelly plots near the Gironde estuary – where Cabernet Sauvignon excels (60% of the blend). 2022 marks our first vintage listing this wine, which shone at our En Primeur tastings in April. Colour is deep ruby-purple, aromas boasting concentrated, ripe black fruits. This is a full, focussed, silky mouthful, with beautiful purity of spiced cassis and graphite flavours – classically Pauillac. The finish is appetising, long-flavoured and harmoniously tannic (for drinking 2030-2042+).
