This is one of Mercurey’s greatest terroirs for red wine, and rightly classified a First Growth. The vineyard was carefully replanted between 1988 and 1999, so the vines are now on average 28 years old. They must have put their roots down deep, for this is superb. Colour is impressive, purple-ruby, aromas are open, ripe and fresh. “This is never aggressive,” says Guillot, and we agree. The wine has elegant, super-fine fruit, with richness and balanced, long aftertaste (for drinking 2025-2032+).
