Domaine de Forétal is located in the village of Vauxrenard, up in the hills above Juliénas. There have been Perrauds in Vauxrenard since the 17th century, with Jean-Yves Perraud now at the helm, running the family`s 9 hectares of vineyards. These extend across the appellations of Moulin à Vent, Juliénas, Beaujolais-Villages and Beaujolais. Jean-Yves joined his father Jacques at the domaine in 1998, following studies in oenology and viticulture. He has worked hard since then to modernise the vineyard area to allow for a better and more consistent maturation of his grapes. In parallel with innovation, respect for the environment and of traditional ways of working, above all working by hand, has been key to his ethos. He has practiced lutte raisonnée since 1998, allowing him to be more in tune with the needs of the vines. In 2019 he officially engaged in sustainable viticulture, resulting in the estate being certified Terra Vitis. In 2020 this progressed to achieving `Haute Valeur Environnementale` (High Environmental Value) status. His wines have startling purity and brightness that reflect both vine location and Jean-Yves`s work in vines and cellar.
