This cuvée is from a flinty-soiled vineyard at the foot of the Saint Andelain hill called Buisson Menard. It was renamed Buisson ‘Renard’ (fox) in jest, being a faux pas made by a rather critical wine writer. Being north-west facing, this vineyard benefits from a cooler exposition, which has its advantages in a warmer vintage like 2020. Winemaker Jean-Philippe Agisson told us “This wine is always less obviously powerful than the other wines here. But it is more crystalline, and has preserves its freshness really well.” Pale lemon-gold colour, aromas are tightly scented and discreet, being more mineral than fruity. Palate is full, focussed and layered, having tension and energy, texture being silky, the finish long and pure (for drinking 2024-2030+).
