Jean-Paul Brun`s vibrantly youthful Saint-Amour comes from a south-east facing plot of 50-year-old Gamay vines, whose roots burrow deeply into the siliceous granite soil. The wine was made “the Burgundian way,” with hand picking of grapes, careful sorting, destemming and regular punching down during fermentation to extract juiciness of flavour and tannic structure. Unoaked, it was bottled in early summer 2021, allowing the wine to retain its purity of youthful fruit. Pale ruby in colour, this has a glorious red cherry and cherry blossom scent, leading to a medium bodied palate that is gentle and poised. This is a concentrated, pretty, delicately structured Cru Beaujolais, with supple texture and excellent length.
