La Bonne Pioche translates as “lucky pick” or “great choice”- here we have a wine with both power and finesse, which certainly lives up to its name. Syrah dominates the blend (65%), alongside Mourvedre (20%) and Grenache (15%), from vineyards in the village of St Jean de Cuculles, in the heart of the Pic-Saint-Loup cru. Deep ruby-pourple colour, aromas are intense and fragrant, with notes of black berries, violet and fresh mint. This aged in a mixture of large, old oak foudres and concrete eggs, lending the wine a beautiful, satiny texture and roundness on the palate. Full and expressive, it finishes with freshness and fine tannins.
