Description

This beautiful, unoaked, alpine Chardonnay has a vibrant freshness that enlivens the palate. It is thanks to the high percentage of chalky, dolomite limestone in the soils that this wine was given its name – `Caliz` comes from the Latin word Calx (chalk). Pale lemon-gold colour, aromas recall lemons with hints of white peach. This is a focussed, light bodied, palate-cleansing, citrusy mouthful, having a zippy, bright finish. We particularly encourage lovers of good Chablis not to miss this.

Kurtatsch is a beautiful village in the Alto Adige, where the vines are grown up to 900m, in spectacular karst landscape. The terrain is steep and dramatic, with a diverse range of soils, geology and microclimates. Kellerei Kurtatsch is one of Alto Adige’s smallest and oldest co-operative wineries, founded in 1900. They look after 190 hectares of vines, working with 190 growers. “We like terroir; we don’t like too much oak. These are elegant mountain wines,” says winemaker Othmar Doná. The fresh, pure, precise style of the Kurtatsch whites and reds have made them solid HH&C listings.
