Les Battaudes lies under the Premier Cru Morgeot vineyard, with clay soils giving a style of Chassagne that has breadth and good volume. With this wine, Agnès chose to use 350 litre barrels for fermentation and ageing. “The barrel type and size really matters,” she told us; “it adds the final touch to a wine, like seasoning a dish. 350 litre barrels are ideal for Les Battaudes, giving more pep and tension to this richer cuvée than a traditional 228 litre barrel does.” Pale gold in colour, aromas are rich and fragrant leading to a palate that is full bodied and suavely textured. There is a line of mineral freshness from start to finish, structure being fine, the finish long (for drinking 2024-2029+).
