Located on the steep hillsides above the town of Beaujeu, Domaine Vavril owns just over 10 hectares of vines, predominantly planted with Gamay. Beaujeu born and bred, and eager to bottle his own wines, winemaker Jean-Luc Ducruix arrived at the property in 2005. From vines planted in the `Héronde` sector of the appellation, this excellent Côte de Brouilly has a bright, ruby-purple colour, the nose being attractively scented, recalling ripe red cherries and violets. Medium bodied on the palate, there is lovely depth of juicy fruits, with fine structure. This is a beautifully balanced Beaujolais, with ripe tannins and a refreshing finish.
