75% of this wine comes from vines averaging 60 years of age, from the same, steep-sloping, east-facing First Growth which is equally magnificent for Chardonnays (the Pavelots also make a white Caradeux cuvée). 25% of the Pinot Noir grapes came from a 7-year old plot, which has brought welcome vibrancy in this hot, dry vintage. Before global warming, this site sometimes struggled to mature its Pinots, as cool air can flow past it, down the valley, which used to delay the ripening. There was no fear of that in 2022. Colour is deep, purple-ruby, aromas show superb, fresh ripeness. Palate is powerfully built, with forceful fruitiness, yet finishing with pure, fine tannins and elegant aftertaste (for drinking 2025-2035+).
