The vineyards of Clerc-Milon lie on some of the most desirable gravel mounds of the Médoc, contiguous with both Lafite and Mouton-Rothschild. Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Mouton bought the property in 1970, with the wine now being made in a stunning, state-of-the-art, wood-faced winery, which over-looks Lafite. In 2023, the blend is 72% Cabernet Sauvignon with 19% Merlot, 6.5% Cabernet Franc, 1.5% Carmenère and 1% Petit Verdot, ageing in 55% new oak. Deep ruby in the glass, complex black fruit and subtle cedar and pepper aromas lead to a smooth, rounded, well-structured palate. This is a refined, focussed Pauillac, having excellent stuffing allied to fresh minerality. The finish is long and poised (for drinking 2028-2048+).
