Founded in the 16th century, Domaine de l’Eglise is believed to be Pomerol’s oldest property, the vines bordering famous names towards the north of the appellation’s central plateau, including La Fleur-Pétrus and L’Eglise Clinet. Under Castéja family ownership, in recent years it has been receiving the tightly focused attention it deserves. This is a property on an upward trajectory, the outstanding 2020 vintage being the first that we purchased En Primeur. This 2023 is magnificent, boasting the aromatic and textural density of great Pomerol. A blend of 98% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, this is very deep purple colour, having beautiful aromas of floral black fruits and liquorice. The palate has power allied to elegance, being richly concentrated, and having fine, mineral freshness. This is a fluid Pomerol, with well-sustained length (for drinking 2030-2040+).
