2023 is the second vintage produced under the ownership of the Lorenzetti family, with Christopher Congé (previously Wine Operations Manager at Lafite) at its helm. Advantageously sandwiched between Cos d’Estournel and Lafite, this organically run property is carving a reputation as one of the most exciting estates on the Médoc. A stand-out from our tastings this spring – and £90 less per case than the 2022 – the 2023 Lafon-Rochet is a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc. Impressive purple-ruby, with tightly scented, smoky, black fruit aromas, this is full-bodied, with generous, classy middle fruit, precise frame, and harmonious, ripe tannins. This is a classically built Saint-Estèphe, having gravitas and charm (for drinking 2030-2047+).
