A first for our En Primeur range, in the mid-18th century Lynch-Moussas was one half of what was known as Château Lynch – the other half being the vines that make up Lynch-Bages. The two were split in 1835, and Lynch-Moussas went on to be acquired by the Castéja family in 1919. As we have seen at other Castéja properties, quality has surged in recent years. Investment of time and money, and fine-tuning of vineyard and cellar work, now gives a wine with less rusticity and more polish. The role of consultant winemaker Axel Marchal cannot be underestimated. Having trained under the great Denis Dubourdieu, his ethos is to produce wines that are the purest expression of their origins. The result is the finest Lynch-Moussas we have tasted En Primeur. 78% Cabernet Sauvignon with 22% Merlot, this has a wonderfully attractive, delicately spiced, cassis aromas. This is a classically styled Pauillac, having good attack, an excellent, ripe middle, a fine frame, and a long length (for drinking 2030-2040+).
