Christian Moreau comes from a long-established Chablis family, with outstanding vineyard-holdings at the heart of some of the finest Grands Crus. With his son Fabien, he runs a cutting-edge, top quality Chablis estate from which we were pioneers in shipping directly with the 2004 vintage. The family`s vines are concentrated on the right bank of the river Serein, with terrific Grand Cru plots – including 3 hectares of Le Clos. In addition, they produce one of the region’s most superb First Growths. the Premier Cru Vaillon Cuvée Guy Moreau. This is from a 0.8 hectare plot, planted in 1933, which lies in the heart of Premier Cru Vaillon. Their wines all come from Domaine vineyards, except for their village Chablis, where grapes from 1.5 ha. of estate vineyard are supplemented by fruit from two other plots, from which the Moreau family has been buying for many years. Judicious use is made of stainless steel, aged oak and small proportions of new oak barrels for fermentation and ageing, resulting in wines that are outstanding, seductive expressions of Chardonnay from Chablis.
