These vines lie in a sun-catching amphitheatre adjoining Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières. When you climb the slope, you can understand why the vineyardis named “under the donkey’s back,” as the vines are sheltered to the north by a huge, long hummock of stones and trees which resemble the slumbering animal. In the days when these vines were part of Domaine Leflaive, the plot was planted with Pinot Noir – but it is calcareous, stony, white wine territory,so Chardonnays replaced the Pinots, from 2003. This was fermented in small oak barrels, of which 20% were new. It is golden-green in colour, with apricot and ripe peach aromas. Palate is lively, with intense bright fruitiness; very exuberant, creamy and long (for drinking 2024-2030+).
